The Fridge Speaks the Truth

So Paul already posted but I had to add a little bit too seeing as we now have internet (Yay!) Madison sure is a beautiful town and I'm *starting* to feel like I know my way around. As Paul mentioned I went to buy books today and felt like a student again for the first time in a long time. Madison definitely has an Oberlin-ish feel to it in some parts and then in others it's just bigger and completely different. Also interesting is since Wisconsin is a swing state (where Illinois is not) there are a TON of campaign ads which Paul and I had been missing out on. So we'll be registering to vote here and hopefully swing the state the right way.

Madison Wisconsin!

AHA! So, we're in Madison and the DSL is finally up and running! Woo Hoo! The apartment is really close to being done, thanks to some versitile solutions for modern living. The neighborhood is great, and things are generally good. Alison's out buying books for her classes as I post! Not much else going on. Oh yeah, I'm going on a business trip to Pittsburgh for a few days so that should be fun. Or whatever. I guess that's all for now!

The Big Move

So friends and family, tomorrow is my and Paul's last day in Chicago. At 7am we pick up the Uhaul and pack it up for the great unknown that is Madison...
Goodbye Chicago, WE SALUTE YOU!

Hmmmm

So Paul and I have been watching a lot of Olympics and we have to wonder.....

Is Paul Hamm the Men's All Around Gymnastics Gold Medalist?

Or Big Andy's Bizarro Twin?

TMBG's the best

I now have one more reason to claim that They Might be Giants are the best band ever. Not only can you download their latest albums for about 5 bucks less than the cost of their CD's, not only can you download latest web exclusive songs for a buck a pop, but now you can also go to their site and download high quality mp3 recordings of live shows for 10 bucks a show. Most shows are about 25 songs with encore included. They show the entire playlist, and you can download the whole show, or individual songs. This also includes printable cover and inside sleeve artwork, in case you want to burn a copy for your friends with some nice presentation.

Not much to say but, "Sweet Zombie Jesus!!!!"

sounds

Currently listening to this. Sufjan Stevens in particular. It's been a while since I've had a chance to listen to stuff from the internet, I must say. Don't forget N° 27, from the Donnie Darko soundtrack. It's Friday evening and I'm exhausted, at home. Hope you all have a great week end.

Those Mighty Karlson's

Those Mighty Karlson's. . . they're so mighty!

I'm looking forward to the day they bike their buff butts back into Madison. Speaking of Madison. 5:30 AM, we get up and load a van and head to the promised land. . .

Good luck with all the packing

My favourite is TV.jpg. By far. Because we can see your reflexion in the TV!

this is just a temporary post

Hey from Portland (still...)

Hey all you infinite drivers!

Sarah and I are almost on our way out of Oregon, almost a week later than we planned. I blame all our stupid friends for being so fun and great, especially Pete and Cris (who abducted us to a cabin on the Oregon coast, right by the damned ocean) Gabe (who has graciously been letting us crash, and who has been putting up with all our gear and bike trauma) and Gwyn and Frunch, who had the nerve to have such an awesome freaking wedding. So, now that we've got Sarah's new bike all set up and our tent washed and all our stuff packed up, it's a quick three or four days to Seattle, and from there up to the San Juan Islands and Bellingham and then down the damn coast!

Oh, we also updated our website (finally), with tons of photos and everything, and enabled comments too! We're going to try to stay on top of that better, and being on the densely populated, computer-internet-savvy West Coast will help with that. There just aren't that many places suitable for serious internetting between Minneapolis and Portland. So, Love to you all, and Paul's right: the Olympics need some serious help. Maybe the implosion of the "Dream" Team will help. Oh, go see Garden State, a flawed but wonderful movie.

T-Shirt Deli

So today was a fun day. I went to the aforementioned T-Shirt Deli, a cute little store that is actually set-up like a deli and you can make your own t-shirt. They wrap it in butcher paper and put stickers on it like "kosher." It's a gimic I know, but I'm a sucker. The really cool thing was they had DOG t-shirts! So my mom got one for their new dog Sarah, who has a congenital birth defect in her leg that makes it look all funny, which says: "It's Congenital" and I got one for James (see below)

I opted for the "Y" ending because you had to pay by the letter.

Right. And, well, Athena has really weird drawn on breasts. And it just looks awkward, or maybe like she has two targets on her chest.

I'm with you, Paulie. Not a fan.

Olympic Mascots

I tell you, nothing says athletic like those things. What the heck are they anyway? Freaks of some kind, that's what. Yup, nothing says athletic competition like deformed little humanoids with Giants feet and tiny heads which are undescernable from their necks.. The Olympics lost a hold of themselves a LONG time ago. They need to get a grip. Plus, having their shirts extend all the way to their hands is clearly a rip-off of the wonderful Adult Swim series Home Movies.

Behold:

In fact, now that I look at them, the whole design is completely ripped off.
That's my complaining for the day.

Ich bin eine Parisienne!

Paris "intra-muros": that's where I now live! Not in Versailles, not all the way out in Plaisir, but inside the city walls! To get an idea, here's a map. Plaisir, where my parents live, is west of Versailles, not even on that map. Zoom in and out in French.

So my address is
with Bourre
24 square de Cligancourt
75018 Paris
France

(now it's your turn, Ali...)

I'm in Paris, then, and it will be a lot easier for work. Lately I've been going to all four corners of the city to find housing for 19 students. That group of nineteen is arriving on the 23d, and I still need 3 rooms. I need them all to be with a francophone flatmate if possible, so as to maximize the immersion, which is the best way to learn the language as well as the cultural quirks of the French. You are probably thinking, 3 housings in two weeks isn't that bad! No, it wouldn't be that bad, if I didn't have 25 other students arriving on the 18th, who will need assistance in strategizing to finding their own housing. Anyhow... that's what I'm up to at work right now, as well as buying theater tickets by the dozen, organizing day trips out of Paris, and becoming the official chocolate supplier for the office.

I also have finalized a date with an orthopedic, who will do what he knows best... a DIDT!
I'm psyched to no end... (sarcastic). At least I know what will happen and when. Surgery will be exactly 4 months day-to-day after blowing out the ACL: on the 22nd of September. Basically it'll be an autograf, they will take a tendon from my right thigh, fold it in four and pin it where the ACL used to be. After surgery I will need to go for three weeks to a rehab center, (exercises, massages, etc) and then I can go back to work. I certainly won't be able to play until May 2005. The pins will resorb around September 2006.

Seriously, your address is wanted

I repeat::::::

ALISON CARTER, post your address!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Or email it to me at jenkatz@gmail.com. I got a great deal on a "Meats of the Month" club, and I get to send a free companion membership to a friend.

Summer of Alison!

So it's been awhile since I've posted. Since my last post I've quit my job and have begun "The Summer of Alison!" So far the S.o.A. is going well. Here's what I've been up to:

-Right after I quit my job I went to NYC for a long weekend to visit Alhawk and Katie! Which of course, was tons of fun. We went to a hookah bar and some tasty restaurants and in general hung out and had fun.

-This past weekend Paul, my family, and I all went to Madison for my cousin Derek's wedding. Since my Dad's whole side of the family is 100% pure Wisconsin it was only natural that Bucky Badger, the UW Madison mascot make an appearance at the wedding.

Yes, this is what a wedding in Wisconsin looks like.

-My other time has been spent wandering around Chicago, checking out some neighborhoods I've never been to before and eating, of course. I've also re-discovered the daytime programming I've been missing like Oprah and Jeopardy!
-Also, all those at home, beware of the addictive qualities of VH1, I've watched too much VHI in the past couple weeks.
-So I've got a few more days of pure goofing off and then Paul and I will start moving up to Madison. We're doing a mini-trip on the 17th and then a final trip on the 25th. I'll post our new address and stuff on here when it gets closer to "that time."

I have no ulterior motive

I want this information for no particular reason...

Alison, what's your current address?

No reason at all...
